Apply to speak or attend: President of the General Assembly's High-level Meeting on Financing for SDGs, 11 June 2018, UNHQ in NY

On 11 June 2018, the President of the UN General Assembly convened a one-day high-level meeting to address the challenges and bottlenecks that block the private investment towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) sectors and elaborate the role of the UN in strengthening public-private partnerships. At the request of the Office of the President of the General Assembly (OPGA), UN-NGLS facilitated a process to identify 4 stakeholder respondents to speak from the floor during the panel discussions, and for stakeholders to apply to attend this meeting as observers.

 

Stakeholders could apply for the speaking roles by 11 May or to attend as an observer by 27 May:

UN-NGLS facilitated a stakeholder Selection Committee for the evaluation and short-listing of the candidates for the speaking roles, to be presented to OPGA for their consideration. Stakeholders could apply for the Stakeholder Selection Committee by 11 May.

The Committee ensured regional and gender balance, and diversity of constituency and expertise in the overall set of candidates. The President of the General Assembly makes the final selection of the speakers for this event.

The President of the General Assembly has now selected the following four respondents through this process:

Panel 2: Let the investment grow: filling in the gap of trillions
Artemisa Montes Sylvan
Observatorio Mexicano de la Crisis (Mexican Observatory on Crisis) - Mexico

Panel 3: Remove the hurdles of irrigation: channeling investment to the ground
Elizabeth Moses
AlphaZULU Advocates - United Kingdom of Great Britain & Northern Ireland / Nigeria

Panel 4: Secure the fruits: maximizing investment impact
Agnes Leina 
Indigenous People of Africa Coordinating Committee - IPACC - Kenya
